NY corruption panel presses Legislature for data

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York's anti-corruption commission says it will compel lawmakers to provide information they've refused to turn over during a month-long standoff.

Commission spokeswoman Michelle Duffy says the panel voted Tuesday to move "aggressively" with subpoenas after lawmakers refused to release lists of clients in their private law practices. The commission wants the information to examine any possible conflicts of interest.

The commission didn't detail what steps it will take.

The panel was created by Gov. Andrew Cuomo following the most recent spate of corruption scandals involving lawmakers.

The Legislature had also refused to approve Cuomo's package of anti-corruption bills during this year's session.

The commission's first public report is due Dec. 1.

There was no initial comment from legislative leaders.
