Animal cruelty case involving roosters

Rochester, NY -- Two people have been arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty for animal fighting involving roosters.

Humane Society of Greater Rochester have arrested Martin Diaz and Maria Ginel of Rochester. Officers arrested them after finding ten roosters with body alterations consistent with fighting birds, along with evidence of an organized animal fighting operation.

The roosters were seized by Humane Society officers and taken to Lollypop Farm.

Diaz and Ginel were arraigned in Rochester City Court on Thursday and are being held in Monroe County Jail. Ms. Ginel will appear in court on November 1 for a preliminary hearing, while the hearing for Mr. Diaz is scheduled for November 4.

The felony animal cruelty charge can lead to a possible sentence of up to four years in jail and/or a maximum fine of $25,000. Other charges from the Rochester Police Department are pending.
