Dozens of chickens plucked from city home
Rochester, N.Y. - The loss for the Wilson family has more than ruffled a few feathers, they're heartbroken over the disappearance of about a dozen family-like members of the household.
The Wilsons have housed 20 chickens and ducks over the past 15 years, a dozen of them were stolen this week.
We noticed on Monday that we were missing a few. We were missing about three, pet owner Molly Wilson said.
The family then noticed Wednesday night that more birds were gone.
The Wilsons think the culprit had to have made multiple trips.
They believe the thief or thieves hopped over a surrounding fence, into their backyard, walked right to the chicken coop and took what they wanted.
We were upset and mad and in shock as to why anyone would want to steal them, Wilson said.
Since the thefts, the family has made major changes to protect the animals that are left.
In the past we'd let them out and they could wonder the yard and we'll just kind of supervise and check on them every once and awhile, now if we're not out in the backyard neither are they, Wilson said.
They even padlock the shed's doors.
For the Wilsons, the chickens don't really serve a purpose.
They say they are more pets with benefits the family gets eggs from the birds on occasion.
For now they're giving someone the benefit of the doubt, hoping they'll bring those pets back.
They're our pets, they all have names, Wilson said. We love them dearly. Just bring them back.
If anyone spots the birds, or have any information, youre asked to call police.
