Seneca Park Zoo baby orangutan naming contest

Rochester, NYMonroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced Tuesday the details of a naming contest for the Seneca Park Zoos five-month-old female orangutan.

The new baby was born to the zoos 35-year-old matriarch, Kumang, and Denda, the 10-year-old male who joined the Zoo in April 2011.

Our Zoo family grew considerably in 2013 and it has been a delight to watch this little one blossom, said Brooks. Following a successful lion cub naming campaign, we will once again be utilizing social media to engage even more Zoo fans in this naming contest.

The naming contest for the orangutan, which was born on April 24, starts October 1, and runs to October 31.

Names can be submitted one of three ways: to the County Executives Twitter feed @Maggie_Brooks, Facebook page, as well as via email to naming@senecazoo.org. All entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. on October 31.

Further details on the naming contest can be found at www.senecaparkzoo.org
