Man convicted of stabbing victim 46 times

Rochester, N.Y. - A Rochester man was convicted Tuesday of murdering his girlfriend's roommate in April.

Antonio Ortiz, 44, was found guilty of second-degree murder by a Monroe County jury.

On April 4, Ortiz entered his girlfriend's apartment on Seneca Manor Drive and stole two flatscreen televisions from the premises. Ortiz then stabbed his girlfriend's roommate, William Fergus, 64, 46 times.

Ortiz then took the victims wallet and cell phone.

Rochester Police spotted Ortiz later that day driving his girlfriends car and apprehended him.

Security footage from local retailers would later show Ortiz using the victims credit and debit cards prior to his arrest.

Ortiz claimed he killed Fergus during a drug-induced hallucination. But prosecutors demonstrated Ortizs behavior before and after the murder were not consistent with his claims of being incapacitated by narcotics.

Ortiz will be sentenced January 22 and faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
