DOT: Bay Bridge Safe

Irondequoit, N.Y.-- Monday the State Department of Transportation closed the outside lanes of the Bay Bridge carrying route 104. A recent inspection found that between five and eight of the eighty floor beams under the bridge were slightly bent, according to a DOT spokesperson.

"I hope they are going to make it safe for us," said Edward Snyder.

The bridge remains open in both directions to all traffic except oversized loads.

"We don't have any knowledge or any information to have us think there's any safety concerns about the bridge," said Lori Maher, DOT spokesperson.

No timetable has been set for the bridge to fully re-open.

Inspectors could be seen checking the bridge Thursday morning.
