Honor Flight brings together old friends, war memories

Rochester, N.Y. - Two men who fought side-by-side on D-Day were reunited over the weekend for a special trip to see their memorial.

Al Valerio and Gerry Duerr went to Washington D.C. on an Honor Flight.

Honor Flight flies veterans to see the monuments in Washington at no cost to the vets.

Duerr lives in Syracuse now and has not been in good health, so Valerio didn't know if his friend was going to be able make the trip until the last minute.

The two kept in touch recently. And yet, after all this time, the two friends are still learning about each other.

"I'm 90 years old, so's Gerry and we hope to hit a hundred, Valerio laughed. Yes, hope to hit a hundred.  When's your birthday?"

"October 1."

"I'm Sept. 26--you're older than me!"

"That's right! Dang kid!

The men said they loved every minute of the trip.
