Reaction mixed to increasing NY speed limit to 75

Albany, N.Y. - The push from a Bronx Assemblyman to increase New York State's maximum speed limit is drawing mixed reaction from local drivers.

The speed limit on highways would jump from 65 to 75 miles per hour if the proposal passes. That would put New York in line with 16 other states.

Drivers are divided on whether that would make highways less safe.

Driver Sandra Smith said, I've driven through Virginia on the expressway where its already 75 and those people drive crazy! So no, no! Keep it 65!

I don't see myself increasing thatif they were to increase the speed limit, I would still go that fast because its just comfortable, said driver Andrew Serefine. I think 65 is too slow.

The bill to raise the speed limit was introduced in the Assembly last week, but the New York State Senate has yet to put forth a version.
