Irondequoit Democrats call for early opening of Bay Bridge
Irondequoit, N.Y. - Unexpected lane closures in Irondequoit influenced area democrats to call upon the county to ask for an early opening of the Bay Outlet Bridge.
According to a press release Friday, Irondequoit Supervisor Candidate Adam Bello and Town Council Candidates Lorie Barnum and Dave Seeley asked Monroe County to open the Irondequoit Bay Outlet Bridge earlier than its annual closing date.
The interest in speeding up the bridge closing is influenced by lane closures on the larger Irondequoit Bay Bridge.
According to the New York State Department of Transportation, the duration of the lane closures is unknown at this time. NYSDOT said a recent inspection found the need for additional repairs.
In the wake of this shocking news about the Bay Bridge, we have determined that a simple solution would be to close the Swing Bridge two weeks earlier than scheduled, said Bello. With boating activity at a minimum, this is a common sense solution to the inconvenience brought about by these unexpected lane closure."
