Police arrest suspect in Geneva stabbing

Geneva, N.Y.- Police arrested a man suspected of stabbing two people trying to break up a bar fight in Geneva last March.

John McCoggle, 30, has been indicted on first and second-degree assault charges and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police said on March 17, in the area of Trottas Bar on Castle Street, officers responded for a report of an assault. They discovered two men were stabbed, one to the hand and one to the chest, while trying to break up a fight that started inside the bar.

Rochester Police arrested McCoggle Monday afternoon. He will be transferred to Geneva City Police and will be arraigned in Ontario County Court on the charges.
