Cuomo attends groundbreaking for NY med school

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo has attended a groundbreaking ceremony in Buffalo for a new medical school complex expected to open in 2016.

Cuomo started his visit Tuesday morning with a tour of Buffalo Harbor development projects on the city's Lake Erie waterfront. Afterward he took part in the groundbreaking ceremony held for the University at Buffalo's new $375 million medical school. The current medical school is on UB's south campus in Buffalo.

The new facility for UB's School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is being built on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, a five-block downtown area with hospitals and biomedical science companies.

Other nearby construction projects include a new children's hospital, a medical office building and Roswell Park Cancer Institute's $40 million Clinical Sciences Center.
