Lollypop investigation leads to animal cruelty arrest

Rochester, NY -- Humane law enforcement officers with the Humane Society of Greater Rochester have arrested a man they say attacked a dog.

Brett Neil of Rochester has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty. The investigation started after a video surfaced of Neil allegedly dousing a German shepherd dog with water from a hose, and striking the dog with what appears to be a rake. That video of the incident was subsequently posted on social media.

Humane Society law enforcement officers obtained the original unedited video file and interviewed witnesses to identify the man and dog depicted in the video. Once identified, Mr. Neil cooperated by providing a statement to officers and bringing the dog to Lollypop Farm to be examined by veterinary staff.

The one-year-old female dog named Princess is now being cared for at Lollypop Farm and will be examined by the veterinary staff at the Humane Society to gather forensic evidence in support of the investigation.

Mr. Neil is scheduled to appear in Rochester City Court on Thursday, October 24. The misdemeanor animal cruelty charge could lead to sentence of one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
