Thieves hit South Wedge tattoo parlor

Rochester, N.Y. -- Around 5:30 a.m. Monday morning, three people threw a cinder block through the glass door of the Upstate Tattoo Company in the South Wedge.

The thieves made their way in and started grabbing computers and tattooing machines and ink. The entire crime was caught on the shops surveillance cameras.

On Monday afternoon, the business was still open and making do with the equipment they still had.

It's always shocking to see that someone would go to this length for money to ruin someone's business for money, said co-owner Bill Herring it's sad and shocking.

The burglars made away with three Apple computers, five tattooing machines (valued at up to $500 each) and several bottles of tattoo ink.

Herring believes that the thieves knew what they were looking for. He says most people dont know tattooing equipment and ink can be very expensive. Also, they are mostly only available people who work at a licensed tattoo parlor.

A lot of companies that we do business with will require proof of ownership of a shop or some of them require a portfolio before you are able to buy the equipment, Herring said.

The thieves spent about a minute inside the shop and Herring says judging by their movements, he believes they had been inside before.

The light switch was behind the open sign and [the burglar] felt for the switch so they knew exactly what they were doing, he said. They came in; each of them grabbed a computer and hightailed it out of here.
