No timetable for Irondequoit Bay Bridge fully reopening

Irondequoit, N.Y. - The Irondequoit Bay Bridge will remain closed indefinitely, according to a spokesperson for the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT).

No timetable exists for the bridge to fully reopen.

A spokesperson for the Department of Transportation told 13WHAM News repairs will be made once they are finished analyzing and measuring the existing structure.

The work will be more difficult due to the access points being 90 feet above the Bay.

Last week, the DOT closed the outside lanes on both sides of the bridge without prior notice. The DOT later explained five to eight of the roughly 80 beams under the bridge were deformed or bent and the department was unsure if repairs would be needed.

The spokesperson went on to say, "We anticipate the current lane closures will remain in place until the repairs are made and our goal is to accomplish the repairs as quickly as possible and to reopen all the lanes to service as soon as we can."
