Walkers paint Rochester pink

Rochester, N.Y. Youve probably seen pink just about everywhere in the Rochester area this month, and Downtown became a sea of pink Sunday.

About 10,000 walkers took part in the three-mile Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, raising $800,000. Organizers said it was a record turnout for the event. The American Cancer Society, celebrating its 100th birthday this year, ran the event.

Spokesman Matt Flanigan said the massive crowd was another sign the fight against breast cancer continues to increase.

What we're seeing is more and more people embracing folks who have been touched by breast cancer really coming out and being here for them, he said. If you were here today talking to someone who's newly diagnosed, what this day means for them, when they come out and they're nervous, scared and they're making their way through this whole process, when they see all those survivors here, it's absolutely powerful for them to know that there's such support for them.
