Open season for Christmas trees

Scottsville, N.Y. The chilly morning didnt stop people from heading out to buy Christmas trees Saturday.

At Stokoe Farms in Scottsville, it was the second day for Christmas tree sales this season.

Owner Suzanne Stokoe said the farm had a much larger opening-weekend crowd than usual due to Thanksgivings relatively late date this year. She said the first weekend in December is usually the top-selling weekend for the farm, but this year it coincided with Thanksgiving weekend, lumping two busy weekends into one.

It's sort of condensed Christmas tree season into three weeks, when it's usually four weekends, she said. We'll be open the weekend before Christmas, but that's only like two days away (from Christmas), so it's just been an unusually large crowd, but people are coming out, having a great time, (with) a few lines but we're getting through it and it's been a great day.
