Traditional campaigning in untraditional mayoral race

Rochester, N.Y. - Though it lacks a candidate to shuffle around town on the eve of Election Day, the Turn Out For Tom campaign picked up steam Monday night.

The campaign set up a slapdash headquarters on S. Clinton Avenue at which fliers and lawn signs were handed out to volunteers.

"This is the first time I've ever done this," said Jeff Howlett, a Richards supporter.

Richards ended his campaign after losing the Democratic primary to Lovely Warren.

A group of his supporters, however, started its own campaign last month.

Warren's last-minute campaigning included a stop in familiar territory at Keeler Park Apartments on Rochester's northside.

There, Warren received a warm welcome from Luvene Ford, the tenant association president.

"I'm campaigning for Lovely because she is visionary," Ford said.
