US Navy divers could join search for drone

Fort Drum, N.Y. (AP) - U.S. Navy divers could join the search for a New York Air National Guard unmanned aircraft that crashed into Lake Ontario last week.

Maj. Sandra Stoquert of the Air National Guard's 174th Attack Wing says Navy salvage experts are talking with officials at the Syracuse-based unit about the possible use of divers to locate and recover wreckage of the MQ-9 Reaper that crashed on Nov. 12.

The drone went down 12 miles from the lake's eastern end after taking off from Fort Drum. Parts of the drone have been recovered along the shoreline near the Oswego-Jefferson county line.

Stoquert say airmen from the 174th and members of the Sandy Creek Fire Department searched the shoreline again Wednesday. She says there's no word yet if the search will resume Thursday.
