NY exchange rollout relatively smooth

by Adam Chodak

Rochester, N.Y. -- Step into Kim Wynns office and you see the Affordable Care Act in motion.

In a bare room on the 2nd floor of a building on Jay St. in Rochester, Wynn guides people through the New York health exchange.

Shes a navigator -- one of the people trained and certified to help people sign up for health insurance through the new system.

Wynn, who works for Rochester-based Coordinated Care Services Inc., says since the sites Oct. 1 launch, the process has been pain-free, for the most the part.

She acknowledges glitches in New Yorks exchange did cause headaches, but adds the rollout has been smooth compared to the troubled federal website, healthcare.gov.

Wynn says the federal sites poor performance has complicated her job.

People confuse the states website with the federal governments, Wynn said.

Under the states website, Wynn says people can apply for health insurance in 45 minutes to 2 hours.

Navigators are contracted by New York State and their service is free.
