Baby orangutan has a name

Rochester, N.Y. - The newest member of the Seneca Park Zoo finally has a name.

The Zoo released the results of the naming contest for the six-month-old female orangutan Tuesday morning and her name is Bella.

Bella was submitted by four participants and means beautiful.

The baby orangutan was born in April to Kumang, the zoo's 35-year-old matriarch Bornean orangutan, and Denda, the zoo's 10-year-old orangutan who came to the Seneca Park Zoo in 2011.

Kumang also has another daughter named Dara.

Bella is a force to be reckoned with, said Rachel Baker August, Executive Director of the Seneca Park Zoo Society. She is fearless, already climbing and swinging throughout her home. I look forward to the community embracing her, just as they have done with her sister, Dara.

More than 525 people suggested names as part of the naming contest, which was held during the month of October.
