DWI crackdown underway

by Evan White

Rochester, N.Y. -- Its inevitable, with Thanksgiving comes one of the largest partying nights of the year. With partying comes drunk driving and that is why the New York State Police are in the midst of this years crackdown against unsafe and impaired driving.

The celebrations get the best of people and once you start drinking you lose your inhibitions before you know it youre riding in the back seat with us, said Trooper Brent Bernard.

Stepped-up enforcement comes in multiple forms.

Were making sure people are making proper signal changes, staying within their lane and they are not speeding, Bernard said.

Wednesday nights slick and snowy weather gives police greater reason to scrutinize speed, according to Bernard.

Some people may look at it the wrong way like were trying to harass them, but were really just trying to keep everyone on the road safe, Bernard added.

As of 10 p.m. Wednesday, there were no reports of any motorist stopped for suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to State Police.
