Two escape submerged car through sun roof

Macedon, N.Y. - Two people escaped after their vehicle became submerged in the Erie Canal early Saturday, according to police.

Macedon Police said that they responded to an accident call around 1:20 a.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle partially submerged in the canal near Alderman Road and Route 31.

The driver of the vehicle, Randy Cole, told police that the vehicle crossed Route 31 after he was unable to stop at a stop sign on Alderman Road. He said that the vehicle then went airborne, and landed in the canal.

Both Cole and his passenger were able to escape the vehicle by climbing out of its sun roof.

Both sustained facial injuries and were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Coles vehicle was retrieved by the Wayne County Sheriffs Office Dive Team. Macedon Police said that the investigation into the crash is ongoing, and that charges may be pending.
