Two Ontario County men injured in separate gun-related incidents

Ontario County, N.Y. - The Ontario County Sheriff's Department responded to two separate gun-related incidents over a two-day span.

According to a news release Saturday, a Phelps man was injured shortly before 10 p.m. on November 15.

Nicholas Tavano, 27, was apparently cleaning his .40 caliber semi-automatic in his bathroom when it discharged and struck him in the left thigh area and exited out the back of his knee. Tavano underwent surgery at Strong Memorial Hospital and is in guarded condition.

The incident remains under investigation.

A second incident occured shortly before 11 a.m. in Canandaigua on November 16.

Authorities said Kevin Perrin, 48, was deer hunting on a family member's property when something, possibly a tree branch, entered into his .44 caliber revolver's trigger and caused the gun to discharge.

Perrin was struck in the right lower leg and managed to leave the wooded area. A hunting partner drove the victim to F.F. Thompson Hospital where he was later transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Perrin's injury was ruled accidental.
