Lovely Warren's win refuels hope in Rochester

by Alexis Arnold

Rochester, N.Y. - A day after election night, there's a buzz in Rochester.

Theres a feeling of change and a fresh start for the city.

It seems city residents have found that in Mayor-Elect Lovely Warren.

We just kept the mission, we kept knocking on doors, we kept visiting with our seniors and getting our message out there because again, it wasn't about any individual person, it was really about the future of this city, Warren said shortly after she was declared the winner of the mayors race.

It's time for a change, so I believe she's going to get in and take care of what needs to be done in Rochester, voter Christine Hill said.

There were some residents like Cathy Johnson, who voted for Mayor Richards during the primaries, but said Warren earned her place.

There are so many things that can happen and I think she's in it to do what she can and she's got the backing of the people behind her, Johnson said.

That includes the President and C.E.O. of Visit Rochester, who said he's excited about the future of downtown.

She absolutely understands about the need for downtown redevelopment and she gets it, Don Jeffries said.

Outgoing Mayor Tom Richards said he believes in the city and Lovely Warren.

My job is to make sure that the city transitions in a way to be as successful as possible and my job is to make sure Lovely Warren is as prepared as much as she can be to successful and that's what I'm going to do, Mayor Richards said.

Mayor Richards said his first priority now is to spend as much time as he can with his family.

As for Lovely Warren's City Council President seat, City Clerk, Daniel Karin told 13WHAM News that when Warren resigns, the City Council will have 30 days to appoint someone.
