Firefighters salvage part of Avon home

Avon, N.Y. Eight people are OK after a massive house fire Saturday night.Flames started pouring from a house on North Avon Road around 8:30 p.m.

Several fire departments responded to the scene. Firefighters finished putting the flames out early Sunday morning.

Firefighters said some cats were still missing Sunday afternoon, but a dog was saved and they were able to salvage part of the house and some other personal items.

We did the best we could with the wind blowing, and in the daylight we saved a lot more than we thought we did in the dark, said East Avon Fire Chief Jerry Sheppard. We're pretty proud of our fire department and our neighboring departments that helped us.
