Sheriff's deputy rescues Avon woman from fire

Avon, N.Y. - A woman was rescued from an overnight fire in Livingston County.
Sheriff's deputies found Diane Vonglis, 59, hanging from a second story window of her Sutton Road home in Avon around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Deputy Timothy Sweeting found a ladder in the nearby garage and used it to guide her down to safety.

She was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The house was badly damaged by the flames.

Firefighters said her stove caught fire when it was in "self-cleaning mode."
