Cancer center gets major grant
Buffalo, N.Y. (AP) - Roswell Park Cancer Institute says its researchers have recently received nearly $7 million in grant funding.
The Buffalo hospital says Dr. Kelvin Lee, who chairs the immunology department, received three grants totaling nearly $4 million. Two grants are from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the other is from the National Cancer Institute.
Aspects of Lee's research could lead to ways to heighten vaccine effectiveness, as well as new treatments for severe allergic reactions to peanuts.
The NCI also has awarded $1.62 million to Steven Pruitt in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology.
In all, eight Roswell scientists were awarded the recent grant funding.
