Middle school students raise money for Sudan

Walworth, N.Y. Students at Gananda Middle School raised $1,393.25 to donate to Building Minds in South Sudan, a charity started by Lost Boy of Sudan, Sebastian Maroundit.

Maroundit made a presentation at the school, about his walk across the desert to a refugee camp in Ethiopia, when his village was raided during a civil war. Political unrest in Ethiopia caused Maroundit to make another walk to another refugee camp in Kenya.

The students at Gananda Middle School each walked 11 miles, making a total of 1,000 miles, symbolic of the walk that Maroundit made as a 9-year-old boy in Sundan.
