Results of Marijuana votes across U.S.

U.S. - Marijuana became the focus of several major votes in states across the country Tuesday.

In Portland, Maine, voters approved a measure that legalizes possession of up to 2.5 ounces of the drug for anyone over the age of 21.

In Colorado, voters approved a tax on marijuana by a nearly-two-thirds majority.

The tax would help fund school construction. In addition, another approved tax would bolster marijuana-related law enforcement efforts.

Colorado, along with Washington State, approved recreational drug use in 2012, and the new tax is considered a possible model for other states considering legalization.

A recent Gallup poll found that 59% of Americans now support legalization.
