Seneca Falls man accused of assaulting correction officer

Seneca Falls, N.Y. -- Seneca County Sheriff's Investigators arrested 26-year-old Adam Jeffrey Briggs for assault in the second degree after he allegedly attacked a corrections officer.

Investigators say Briggs was being held in the Seneca County Correctional Facility Housing unit on Oct. 23, when he became disruptive. He was directed to go in his cell, but did not follow commands from the correction officers.

When one officer attempted to escort Briggs into his cell, the sheriff's department says Briggs broke away and struck the officer with his closed fist. This caused the officer to hit the doorway of the cell, resulting in injuries to his head.

The officer was brought to Geneva General Hospital for treatment.
