Break-in suspects caught on camera

Security cameras captured four men work as a team to break into a familys home in Greece.

Theyve done this before, absolutely, said Rich Stewart, it was staged exactly the way that they did it.

Stewart returned home from work on November 12 and found the side door to his garage had been pried open. When he went back and watched what his home surveillance footage, Stewart said he was shocked to see what happened at his home that Tuesday morning.

While one man scoped out the surrounding area, a maroon and white Cadillac drove up and down Long Pond Road, passed Stewarts house, three times.

Here he comes back again 45 seconds later, this time he pull right into the drive way, Stewart said as he reviewed the tape.

One man exited the car and knocked on Stewarts front door.

Captain of the Greece Police Department, Patrick Phelan said this is a common tactic used by burglars, If they knock on the door two or three times and you dont answer, if gives them some degree of certainty that youre not there.

When no one answered the Stewarts door, the man walked all the way around the home, right in front of Stewarts five security cameras.

About ten minutes later, two other men got out of the maroon car and busted in the side door of Stewarts garage. Once they step inside it's the worst feeling, Stewart said, you just want to move.

Stewart believes the blinking red light on the security camera inside the familys garage is what finally scared off the burglars. When one man yells camera, camera, both run out and the garage and all four men speed off in the maroon and white Cadillac.

I was shocked, Stewart said, I didnt think wed be dealing with these kinds of issues out here.

According to Phelan, the number of burglaries and break-ins typically increases around the holidays. It's Christmas for criminals too, Phelan said, so it's a good time to make sure you use good basic security measures. Police recommend an alarm system that will sound during a break-in to deter burglars.

While the surveillance footage is great for the police investigation, Phelan, security cameras dont always keep criminals out.

The Greece Police Department is investigating the break-in, looking for the suspects and the maroon car. Investigators ask anyone who recognizes the men or the vehicle seen in the video to call 911.
