Police mourn trooper's death

Olean, N.Y. -- State Police were back at the gorge Thursday, trying to determine exactly what happened Wednesday when Trooper Ross Riley was killed during a training accident.

So far, no new details have been released.

Riley was stationed in Batavia, but had ties to the Olean community -- his wife is a State Trooper in Olean and he and his family live in the area.

News of Rileys death has been the talk of the town, and particularly difficult for the law enforcement community.

Oleans Police Chief Terry Schnell says Rileys death has hit the department hard -- calling the loss of a fellow brother a tragedy.

We were all shocked to hear the news and then once it was verified it's just a tragic circumstance that happened, Schnell said. I applaud him for everything he's done through his life and it's just tragic, our heart goes out to Heidi and the three children.

Funeral arrangements are scheduled for early next week.
