Historic warplane prepares for return trip

Geneseo, N.Y. A warplane that had a critical role in one of the worlds most famous battles is preparing for a return trip overseas.

The Whiskey 7 was among hundreds of C-47 aircrafts that sent paratroopers into action at the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France, during World War II on June 6, 1944.

Saturday it returned to its home in Geneseo after getting a tune-up on Long Island.

The plane will depart May 19 for a return to Normandy to commemorate the battles 70th anniversary.

She is the only remaining airplane that's still flying from the 316th, so she's very rare, said Naomi Wadsworth, director of flight operations. We want to take her back not only to commemorate our World War II veterans, but America and all of our veterans.
