Former RCSD teacher convicted of sexually abusing student

Rochester, N.Y. - A former Rochester City School District teacher was convicted Wednesday of sexually abusing an eight year-old student.

Matthew LoMaglio, 37, was convicted of sexual conduct against a child and endangering the welfare of a child for ongoing sexual abuse of a 2nd-grade student during the 2006-2007 school year.

Investigators said on multiple occasions, LoMaglio inappropriately touched the student at School #19 on Seward Street.

LoMaglio was removed from the classroom when allegations of the abuse surfaced in 2012 after the young victim disclosed the incidents to a parent, who contacted the police.

The Rochester Police Department and Monroe County District Attorneys Office worked together on the investigation that led to the arrest of LoMaglio.

LoMaglio faces up to seven years in state prison when he is sentenced next January.
