RPD: Former UR student fabricated robbery

Rochester, N.Y. -- A former student at the University of Rochester student who told police he had been the victim of a robbery and assault lied about the incident, according to police.

Atik Ahmed was treated at Strong Memorial Hospital the night of October 29 after an apparent assault outside of a restaurant on Mt. Hope Avenue earlier that night.

Ahmed, who has since withdrawn from school and moved out of the area, according to police, initially reported that a man stole cash from him, fought him and cut him with a knife. An alert was sent to campus staff and students.

A follow-up interview revealed inconsistencies regarding the location of the fight which authorities were originally told happened in the 1200 block of Mt. Hope Avenue, two blocks from the University of Rochester Medical Center Campus and College Town project.
