Former foes endorse Lovely Warren

Rochester, N.Y. - An unexpected endorsement for Democrat Lovely Warren in the race to be Rochester's next mayor.

Two former foes on the campaign trail came together Friday morning to back her: former mayor Bill Johnson and Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks.

Ten years ago, the two were battling on the campaign trail for county executive. Out of that race came a lasting relationship.

On Friday, Brooks said that while she has had a good relationship with all the mayors of Rochester, it was never stronger than the one she had with Johnson.

Johnson made mention of the Richards campaign, labeling it a "renegade campaign." He thinks Richards could and should stand up and put a stop to the campaign.

As for Brooks, she said the only other Democrat she recalls endorsing was U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who she also saw as an example of a strong woman in doing good work in politics.

"Lovely is traveling a path that is very similar to mine and residents should know that I believe that she and I will have a unique ability to govern together when the election is over," said Brooks.
