Coats for Seniors kicks off

Rochester, N.Y. Winters chill hasnt yet set in, but theres already an effort to keep some of the areas most vulnerable citizens warm.

The 10th annual Coats for Seniors program kicked off Monday morning at the Monroe County Office Building.

New and gently used coats will be collected and given to senior citizens in need.

The program has given away more than 5,200 coats in its first nine years.

Coats can be dropped off from 10 a.m. until noon on weekdays at participating senior centers. Donation boxes will also be set up at the Monroe County Office Building, the Office for the Aging at Monroe Community Hospital, and at Colony Dry Cleaners in Gates. 

The program runs until Jan. 2.
