Local students Skype school dealing with typhoon

Pittsford, N.Y. Middle school students at the Allendale Columbia School Skyped with a teacher in the Philippines Friday about a deadly typhoon that hit the island nation.

Super Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest to ever make landfall, slammed into the Philippines Friday, killing at least four people and forcing hundreds of thousands from their homes.

The students from Allendale Columbia have been sending school supplies to a school there for the last five years.

Its for us to realize what else is going on around the world, not just for us, said eighth-grader Caroline Mealey. Its easier for us to just know how we think that this is how it is all over the place but its not, and we realized that when (our teacher) showed us what its like over there, and how they live and how they learn and what type of environment theyre in.
