Police accuse area pastor of sex crimes

Lockport, N.Y. -- A pastor has been charged with several counts relating to the alleged sexual abuse of children while living in Orleans County.

Police said Roy Harriger, 70, was arrested at his home in the Middleport in Niagara County, and was charged with six felonies. Police said Harriger sexually abused 2 children, a boy and a girl between the ages of 7 and 9, in 2000 and 2001.

Harriger was a pastor at the Wesleyan Church in Lyndonville in Orleans County when the alleged incidents occurred.

State Police also said 10 alleged victims have come forward, but because of the statute of limitations, only two cases can move forward.

Police say Harrigers patterns of abuse date back to the 1970s during his time in Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Harriger is currently a pastor at a church in Hartland.

A family living across the street from Wesleyan Church said Harriger is a wonderful man and don't believe the accusations.

The State Police request that anyone with any information, or if they believe they may have been the victim of sexual abuse in this case, to contact the State Police in Albion at (585)589-4244.
