Pittsford town board proposal targets RVs

Pittsford, N.Y. - The Town of Pittsford may soon crack down on where homeowners can park their RV's and more.

"We don't need any more laws, that's the problem," said Tom Silco who lives on Jordan Road. "We've had a camper here since 1965."

He also has a boat on a trailer.

For 58 years, various campers and RVs were the Silco family's passport to see the United States.

But now, if someone in his neighborhood looks out their front window and doesn't like what they see?

"It would mean we'd have to move the camper back and the boat back and if we had to put a fence up or a hedgerow- it would look worse than this," he said.

The proposed new law would restrict the size of recreation vehicles that can be parked in the driveway. Included are boats, snowmobiles, four wheelers, and transport trailers.

Matt O'Connor is a member of the Pittsford Town Board who is looking into the proposal said the proposed law could balance the needs for homeowners and RV owners as well:

A committee that included residents has been meeting for months to draft the legislation. It will be the subject of a public hearing Tuesday, December 10 at 7 p.m. at the Thornell Road Elementary School.

Silco will be at the meeting.

"The majority of people aren't even worried about (RV's). We've got a few people complaining about their neighbors," he said.
