What Alexander told Warren
by Sean Carroll
Rochester, N.Y. -- Rochester couldnt match the offer and Cedric Alexander had to turn down the offer to be Rochesters new police chief.
Today, mayor-elect Lovely Warren gave a candid account of conversations with Alexander.
Warren said it was worth waiting for Alexander to make up his mind. She also says she understands his decision to stay in Georgia where he was promoted and given an $8,000 raise.
Alexander was Police Chief in Rochester for a short time. He has since moved on to Dekalb County in Georgia. Warren shared how Alexander declined the position.
He called me up and said you know we're friends and I want to come and help you out but they're making me an offer I can't refuse, said Warren. So I said you know I can't compete with that and I appreciate you even considering coming here and he said reach out to me and talk to me I'll be willing to give any advice but my work here isn't done yet."
Warren announced this week that Deputy Chief Mike Cimnelli will serve as the interim chief. Current Chief James Sheppards last day is tomorrow.
Warren plans to conduct an national search for permanent replacement.
