Rural Metro to pay $2.8M for fraud

Emergency Transportation provider Rural Metro will pay the federal government $2.8 million for Medicare fraud.

From 2007 to 2011, companies owned by Rural Metro in four states, including New York, billed Medicare for emergency patient trips that were not actually emergencies.

That led to much larger payments from Medicare for the services.
