12/31 - Don Alhart's Ode to Dawson

Some of this is a little "inside" - so forgive us.

Ode to Evan Dawson
By Don Alhart

Twas the week after Christmas
And all through the station
Evan Dawson was anchoring
All else on vacation
For most of the crew
The final week of the year
For Evan- the wrap
To his 13 Career
Memories abound
Of a reporter with class
So time to look back
On 13
In a Glass!
Co-workers sent me
Some verses to share
I dont get them all
So I hope you dont care...
That I pass them along
With no malice intended
And pray youre still smiling
When this poem has ended
When transferred to mornings
The quick wit was his
But reminded the Seat
Belonged to one Kathy Kriz
The work I am told
He found was a blast
Howd it go?- he would say
On our little
Some talk of the Soul Plates
From poached salmon to Tacos
And the big words he uses
Quite littered with Sockos
A sophisticated palate
From rare beef on skewers
Hed share culinary knowledge
With all of the viewers
After sampling the food, though
Co-workers would dread
Evans throat-clearing routine
That would wake up the dead!
Respect for the author
Of his ego- friends wary
But NASA would ground him
With Shuttle Disco- Very!
Yes- that prompter can get you
So we offer some tips
Never face the camera
Without backup scripts
But now- theres no prompter
To read through the haze
He wont need the script
For his Radio Days
More BOOKS to write
As now theres more time
To think and reflect
On the good Donors Dime
Just kidding, of course
As we all say good-bye
And wish Evan well
At W-X-X-I
A challenge for one
Whom we all respect
A challenge hell meet
With a strong intellect
And thats what well miss
In this little reflective
The stories we shared
From Evans perspective
The wonderful memories
Well share to the end
