NY criticized for not fighting smoking as promised

New York State - New York does not top the list when it comes to funding smoking cessation programs.

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids says New York ranks 21st in the U.S. in programs designed to help people quit the highly addictive habit.

A report says it hasn't fulfilled its promise to use all or most of the money from a historic tobacco company settlement 15 years ago to combat smoking.

The group says New York spends about $40 million a year on tobacco prevention.
