Fire downtown Rochester on University

Rochester, N.Y. - An apartment building was on fire in downtown Rochester according to the Rochester Fire Department.

The abandoned apartment building is near the corner of University Avenue and Scio Street.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke on the top floor of the 3 story building.

Rescue crews searched the building and determined that there was no one trapped inside.

Rural Metro transported one male to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. Preliminary reports suggested that he jumped out of a third story window onto the roof of the 2 story building next door in order to escape the fire.

The building will be undergoing emergency demolition because it was determined thta the building was no longer stable, according to the Rochester Fire Department.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
