Rochester-based soldiers among Guardsmen back from Qatar

Hornell, N.Y. - Soldiers based at National Guard facilities in Rochester and Hornell are among the more than 120 members of the N.Y. Army National Guard back in the U.S. after spending most of the past year deployed in the Persian Gulf.

National Guard officials say the Guardsmen serving in the 222nd Military Police Co. arrived Sunday at Camp Shelby in Mississippi.

They conducted security missions at U.S. military facilities in Qatar.

The unit mobilized for its deployment at the end of February. The soldiers will be processing out from federal military duty at Camp Shelby before returning to New York later this month.

Members of the 222nd MP Company have also served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
