Cooperstown gunman captured in Virginia

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a former employee of a Cooperstown baseball memorabilia store has been captured in Virginia after being sought for pulling a handgun on his ex-boss inside the shop.

Cooperstown Police chief Michael Covert says Tuesday morning that 62-year-old Barry Renert of Seminole County, Fla., was captured by police in Richmond on Monday. Covert says Renert was taken into custody at a bus station, and a rented vehicle he had used to flee upstate New York was found nearby.

Police say Renert was armed with a handgun when he walked into the Seventh Inning Stretch on Main Street in Cooperstown Monday morning. Officials say the store's owner pulled out his own gun and fired once at Renert, missing him.

Renert is expected to be charged with menacing and burglary.
