Attempted escape at Seneca County Correctional Facility

Romulus, N.Y. An escape attempt at the Seneca County Correctional Facility left one corrections officer injured, around 8 p.m. Monday evening.

Aaron Russ, 42, an inmate at Seneca County Correctional Facility was confined in the maximum housing segregation unit, when he allegedly struck a corrections officer in the back of the head with a laundry bag that he had filled with hard items.

According to the Seneca County Sheriff, Russ forced his way out of the maximum security unit, where he knocked a corrections officer down, took the officers keys, and attempted to unlock the door.

Other officers responded and controlled Russ without further incident, investigators said.

The inmate has been placed in a segregation unit.

The injured corrections officer sustained injuries to the head and hands, but is expected to make a fully recovery, investigators said.
