Former RPD chief Alexander not expected to return

Rochester, N.Y. -- Sources told 13WHAM News that former chief Dr. Cedric Alexander, who was here in 2005, is the top choice for police chief.

But in a statement Monday evening, Mayor-elect Lovely Warren said they could not "compete financially" with Alexander's current employer - Dekalb County, Georgia.

Deputy Chief Michael Ciminelli will becoma Acting Chief until the search the next Rochester Police Chief is complete.

Mayor-elect Warren's statement:

"I believe that Dr. Alexander might have been a good choice for the Rochester Police Department, and the citizens of Rochester, but his work in DeKalb is not finished. I have interviewed several great candidates, but given the tremendous importance of this position, I have decided to conduct a national search for our next Chief of Police. As soon as the appropriate process has been determined, it will be announced.  Until that search is complete, Deputy Chief Michael L. Ciminelli will become Acting Chief."

ME Warren also announced three additions to her administration. Dr. Delmonize Smith, T. Andrew Brown and C. Mitchell Rowe
