Multi-car crash in Phelps

Phelps, N.Y. Two drivers were seriously injured after a multi-car crash in Phelps Wednesday morning.

The Ontario County Sheriff's Department said Samuel Hany, 22, was heading east on Route 96 around 6:30 a.m. when he swerved to avoid a deer. He crashed head-on into another vehicle, driven by Robert Velte, 63. Police said Hanys vehicle overturned and was hit by another vehicle, driven by Wayne Bishop, 59 and then a third car, driven by Katie Anastasio, 21.

Hany and Velte were taken to Strong Hospital by Mercyflight. They suffered head injuries along with broken bones.

The other two drivers were not hurt.

Hany will be ticketed for failure to keep right.

Route 96 was closed for 3 and a half hours while police were investigating. The road is back open.
